Autumn Term in 6LR

As the sun is still blazing down, it is difficult to remember that we are, in fact, at the start of the Autumn Term.

The children in 6LR have started well during their first week in Year 6.

They are getting into the daily routine of school life once again and are enjoying our new topic :

Life in World War 2

Some aspects of World War 2 studied will be:

Evacuation, Rationing, The Blitz, World Leaders, War Propaganda, Codes and much more.

History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology, Computing, PE,Music and some Science will be taught through this topic.

Our English units this half term will reflect the wide range of children's literature linked to World War 2.

We will be studying the following books in depth, but many others sources will be referred to over the next few weeks.

The Machine Gunners by Roberts Westall

Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian

Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo

The above books are all readily available at libraries and bookshops, should you wish to read along with your children.

Maths is taught daily with the aid of the Collins Busy Ant Maths Scheme.

Multiplication tables are taught daily and we would appreciate your help with practising them at home.

Homework is given weekly. This consists of:

Reading at home at least three times a week

Maths homework weekly. Given out on Friday and to be handed in by the following Friday.

Spelling activities weekly. Given out on Friday and to be handed in by the following Friday.

Just a quick reminder.

We have two sessions of PE weekly - Monday and Thursday/Friday  - please ensure that the correct PE kit is in school for those days
