Welcome to Year 3
It's hard to believe that we are already in Summer Term 2021.
Our topic for this final term of Y3 is 'Origins,' We will be finding out about the legend of Robin Hood, studying some castle and in science investigating all things 'Animal and Human!'
A few reminders ……..
Start of the day: 8:15am School finishes: 2:45pm
Please ensure your child has their book bag, reading record and school reading book with them each day and that it has been signed by the adult who has heard them read at home. They will also need a labelled water bottle.
PE days for Y3 are TUESDAY AND THURSDAY. Please continue to send your child in their PE kit on these days.
Uniform and PE Kit: We know that some of the children will have grown and without all the shops open there may be some challenges with providing correct full uniform. We understand this but can we please ask that you ensure your child’s uniform is as close to normal as possible. You may want to layer up under the jumpers on colder days as again, we will have the windows open for ventilation. We do have some spare clean, pre-loved uniform in school. If you could make use of this uniform please contact Mrs Naylor.
Our uniform is:
Black or grey trousers, skirts or pinafores.
White or royal blue polo shirt or shirt.
Royal blue cardigan, jumper or fleece.
Hair tied up.
Black, navy or grey shorts or joggers (weather dependent.)
White plain t-shirt
Trainers that support your child’s feet for sport.
No jewellery on PE days please. Thank you.

Homework is sent home on a Friday and is due to be returned the following week. Homework will usually consist of spellings for your child to practice ready for their weekly spelling test. Children are expected to have completed 5 home reads every week. We ask that you support your child with their reading by recording the pages and text they have read from along with a comment and your signature in their reading record.
Daily times tables - In school we have covered the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 times tables, however it is vital that all children can confidently recite all of their times tables and apply that knowledge to trickier questions. These can be chanted, written out with a timer or completed online using websites such as Times Tables Rockstars - all children have a log-in in the front of their reading records.
Daily reading - Reading aloud for at least fifteen minutes a day to build up fluency, stamina and speed. Discussing what has been read and answering questions related to the text e.g. What type of text is this? How do we know? Can you find the two words that suggest...? Children may wish to create their own bookmark. Then, impressive vocabulary found whilst reading could be added to the bookmark. Children have a log-in for Bug Read where they can choose an online book and they can also access Oxford Owl if they wish.

In our daily maths lessons in Year 3 we use many resources from the White Rose Scheme for learning. Every day we warm up by practising our times tables. Why not challenge yourself to have a go a few times a week and try and beat your previous score?
In Year 3 we will be learning our 2,3,4,5, 6,8 and 10 times tables (including the related division facts). Below are some fun, fast-paced activities which can be used at home to reinforce times tables knowledge. In school we particularly enjoy Hit the Button.
If in doubt - read! We ask all children to read aloud to an adult for a minimum of 5 times a week. You can read a book, magazine, set of instructions, web page, comic book or the ingredients to make a cake! Five house points will be awarded for every home read completed and recorded in the reading records. If you're not sure what to read, there is a link below to the suggested texts that year 3 pupils should be reading.

These are the spelling which Y3/4 need to be able to spell in addition to their weekly spellings. Focus on a few at a time and have a go at writing them out in different ways. You might underline the vowels, create rainbow writing, bubble writing or write them in sand. Children will be tested on the spellings they have had for homework every Friday.
Our science focus for the Summer Term is 'Animals including humans.' In school we follow the Developing Experts scheme of work.
