Hello from the Year 6 staff - Mrs Walters, Mr Bland, Mrs. Dables, Miss Deo, Mrs. Connellan, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Buxton - Hart, Mrs. Duggan and Mrs. Pepperday.
Thank you for signing up to our ClassDojo platform which we will use for online learning if needed. Remember that you can see your child's Class Dojo on another device or computer by downloading the app or visiting the dojo website, signing in and entering the code given to you. Dojo is used to share our learning in school, homework, weekly spellings and amazing work which the children have done!
This term our learning is all about Changes: How did the rise and fall of Derbyshire's industrial past impact Langley Mill?
We are learning about the first factories and the industrialisation of the Derwent Valley. Using primary sources we are now creating our own hybrid picture mixing both pre and post industrial images. We have created Dragon's Den interviews of Richard Arkwright and decided whether or not to provide him with funding for his first mill.
In English we are reading Wonder but also making links with reading about the Industrial Revolution and Scavenger Boy by Theresa Tomlinson.
PE: 2 days a week - Tuesday and Thursday Swimming Wednesday
Can we please ask that you ensure your child’s uniform is as close to normal as possible. You may want to layer up under the jumpers on colder days as again, we will have the windows open for ventilation. We do have some spare clean, pre-loved uniform in school. If you could make use of this uniform, please contact Mrs Naylor.
Our uniform is:
Black or grey trousers, skirts or pinafores.
White or royal blue polo shirt or shirt.
Royal blue cardigan, jumper or fleece.
Hair tied up.
Black, navy or grey shorts or joggers weather dependent.
White t-shirt with the school logo on
Trainers that support your child’s feet for sport.
No jewellery on PE days please.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Year 6 Team.
Mathematics for this term will follow our school scheme, beginning with number and place value, addition and subtraction, and properties of shape. You can view our Year 6 long and medium term planning for the year by opening the link.
Timestables Rockstars is also an online platform that we use so that pupils can practise their tables which is so fundamental to all our maths work. Please encourage your children to regularly use this programme.
We expect all our children to enjoy reading and develop a reading habit. We ask that all pupils read at home 5 times per week and that this is recorded in their reading record.
Please see our school curriculum pages for the learning we will do - currently our learning is about Changes.
Please contact us if you need any support. Remember, you can send us a message on Dojo for advice or support if needed.
